"Edge" Knife with Mammoth Ivory Handle
This knife is handmade by a local Alaskan artist. It has an ATS-34 cryogenically tempered steel blade. The handle is carved from mammoth ivory that we traded from a local gold miner. It has a beautiful dark blue color that it gets from the minerals as it sets in the ground over thousands of years.
Here is a note from the knifemaker:
Congratulations! You’re holding in you hand one of the finest handmade knives in the world. This hunter is made from the finest materials available.
This knife was made by the stock removal method, using ats-34, or 154 CM, 5/32” thick, stainless steel bar stock. The blade is hollow ground and has been heat treated and cryogenically tempered to a Rockwell hardness scale (Rc) of 59-60. The knife’s cutting edge will stay sharp for an incredibly long time.
The handle is made from ancient Mammoth Ivory. The sheath is hand tooled 9-10 oz top grain vegetable dyed American leather finished with the finest leather care products available. It’s made either by myself, or D. Johnson right here in Alaska.
Care: Keep your knife dry but lightly oiled during storage. Remember “Stainless Steel” does not mean “Stain PROOF”. It will rust if not properly cared for by maintaining a light coat of quality oil on the blade. A damp cloth is all you need to clean the entire knife and sheath. Do not put it in the dishwasher! Follow these simple steps and your knife will last.
While your knife is designed and built to give decades of service, it is not indestructible. It is not designed to be used as a crow bar, or wedge. Using it in this way will void my lifetime replacement policy. If for any other reason it fails to hold its edge, simply send it back to me for re-sharpening or I’ll send you a new knife at my discretion. No questions asked.
Sincerely, Nathaniel Kelsey Sr.
